A few years ago at a local gun show, a gentleman was selling a stainless government. 380 in the colt blue plastic box and papers (manual and stuff) for under $800. I had one i bought new in 1984 in the satin finish (ugh!). Great pistol and that sounds like a great price for a government model. 380 in condition described. I have its big brother, the colt government mkiv, and really like shooting it.
